About Mark Knopfler

Mark Knopfler is a British singer, songwriter, guitarist, film score composer and a record producer. He is a holder of Order of the British Empire. His full name is Mark Freuder Knopfler but is known with his shortened name. He is highly renowned for being the lead guitarist, songwriter and vocalist of the British band, Dire Straits that begun in 1977 and ended in 1995. Knopfler and his brother, David, had co-founded this band. After Dire Straits disbanded, Knofpler pursued a solo career and continued to record and produce albums under his own name. Even though he has also played in many other bands such as The Notting Hillbillies and has been invited as a guest performer by numerous artists such as John Fogerty, Eric Clapton and Joan Armstrong, his solo career has remained unbeatable.

Mark Knopfler has been rated Number 27 on the list of 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time by Rolling Stone magazine and is one of UK's most respected and highest celebrated fingerstyle guitarists. He has three honorary Doctorates in music as honors from universities in the UK. Knopfler owns around 70 guitars many of which have been gifted to him while others were his own shopping. Having released numerous albums and singles that charted and earned him global recognition, he has numerous awards to his record including three Grammys and has many acclaims.

He has released around 23 albums and has been quite an influence for other guitarists and musicians. Knopfler has the talent of playing combinations of 22 different effects and 16 amplifiers. He has been truly an icon and continues to serve the music industry.
