About Mary J Blige

Mary J Blige is an American singer, songwriter, actress and a record producer. She holds four American Music Awards and ten Grammy Awards to her record. In the early 1990s, the talented musician received World Music Legends Award for combining soul music with hip hop in the early 1990s and has recorded eight albums that got multi-platinum certified. Rolling Stone magazine ranked Blige on Number 100 in its list of 100 Greatest Singer of All Times. The year 2010 brought her the title of being the most successful female R&B artist in last 25 years standing second and ahead of Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston and Mariah Carry.

It was in 1992 that Blige began her career and immediately rose to fame with her first album, What's the 411?, which got multi-platinum certified. This album set the trend for Blige's topping the Billboard 200 chart either numbering first or second for seven albums and making her the only artist to have this record. Her last album to have topped was Stronger with Each Tear which which was released in 2009. She has sold over 15 million singles and 50 million albums. Having released ten albums up till 2010 with seven of them topping the Billboard 200 chart, Mary J Blige has released many singles in collaboration with other singers and has done many tours.

She maintains an appreciable acting career too and is an entrepreneur as well. Blige continues to work actively, especially in the world of music and has become a powerful role model for upcoming musicians and a healthy competition for existing ones.
