About Deep Purple

Deep Purple is an English band that formed in the city of Hertford in the year 1968. This band, alongside Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin is considered to be the pioneer of modern version of hard rock and heavy metal. However, some members of Deep Purple believe that the type of music that they have created cannot be given any category. Deep Purple has sold around 100 million albums all across the globe and have received a rating of Number 22 by VH1 on their program, Greatest Artists of Hard Rock.

This band has seen numerous changes in line up and except for their eight-year hiatus from 1976 to 1984, has done phenomenal works that made them popular all around the globe amongst the fans of heavy metal music. Deep Purple released many singles and albums that peaked on charts and received excellent reviews until, unfortunately, the band broke up at the height of their popularity in 1976. The band suffered misunderstandings between the members, death of a member, changes in line-ups, new incoming members and leaving members but continued to make music that wowed its audiences.

After their re-union in 1984, the band again saw changes in line-up until it got consistent in 1994 with Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Steve Morse and Ian Paice. Don Airey joined the band in 2001. The band has released 18 albums until 2005 and 34 live albums until 2007. They have been touring tirelessly, like always and have done numerous world tours until 2011. Deep Purple is still active with a few tours in plan along with the release of an album.
