Blink 182 is one of the most popular bands ever to have emerged in the world of pop punk. The band comprises of Mark Hoppus who is the bass guitarist, Travis Barker who is the drummer and Tom DeLonge who is the vocalist as well as the guitarist. It all began when DeLonge appeared drunk at the basketball tournament of Poway High School and was expelled. He then moved to Rancho Bernardo High School where he became fries with Anne Hoppus. Anne knew of DeLonge's interest in music and introduced him to her brother Mark Hoppus who also wanted to be in a band. The two began singing, sharing previously written songs and writing more songs in DeLonge's garage.
One day, while trying to impress DeLonge, Hoppus climbed a streetlight and on way back, fractured both his ankles. After recovery, the two decided to form a band and invited Scott Raynor, who DeLonge had met at a party, to be a part of it. The three began recording demos which resulted in their first album named, Blink. This was in 1993. The first full length album of the band however, did not appear before 1994. When an Irish band of the same name threatened the three, they changed the name of the band to Blink 182. The second album, Dude Ranch was released in 1997 and during the promotional tour, drummer Scoot Raynor was fired for his drinking problem. He was replaced by Travis Barker. The band kept on touring, releasing singles, EPs and albums and achieved wide acclaim for their music, humor and stage performances. From 1999, mainstream popularity became inevitable for the band.
Having enjoyed numerous chart-topping albums and signals and won many awards, the band is currently recording their sixth studio album.
