Billboard magazine entitled her as the 'Top New Artist' for 2008. Her first album, Spirit became the fastest selling debut album in UK and Ireland and made Lewis, the first British solo artist to top the Billboard 200 chart through a debut album. Spirit has been sold in more than 6.5 million copes globally. Taking Leona Lewis' second album, Echo into account, the artist has sold over 9 million copies worldwide.

On releasing her debut single, A Moment Like This, Leona Lewis enjoyed watching it become the fastest selling UK single. It received a mesmerizing feedback and was downloaded 50, 000 times within half hour of being released. In 2008, the singer released a download-only production and made a cover by singing Run, song by Snow Patrol. It became the fastest selling download-only release and sold more than 69, 000 copies in just two days.
