About Katy perry
Katy Perry is an American singer, songwriter and an actress. Her real name is Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson but is more commonly known to her fans with her stage name. She was born in Santa Barbara in the state of California to Christian pastor parents. Hence, all through her childhood, she got to listen to gospel music and she even sang in the local church. Katy Perry received a GED during the first year of her high school and having received that, she pursued a career in music. In 2001, she released her debut album as Katy Hudson. The album was self-titled. This album remained unsuccessful while her second album, recorded between 2004 and 2005 never got released.
In 2007, the singer singed to Capitol Music Records, had her name changed to Katy Perry and released an internet single, Ur So Gay. It received public attention but could not chart. In 2008 however, she came up with a single, I Kissed A Girl that took her name to international charts and made Katy Perry, a recognized name. Following the release of this, Katy Perry released her first album to reach the mainstream scenario, One of the Boys and it became the third-largest selling album for 2008. Both, the album and the single, received platinum certifications.
In 2010, Perry came up with her sophomore studio album which reached Number 1 at Billboard 200. Many singles along with an E.T., topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The E.T. remained on the chart until May 2011 making Katy Perry the first singer to remain amongst the Top 10 for the whole year. As of June 2011, Perry is to be seen as a judge on The X Factor.
