About Blur

Blur

Having formed in London in 1989, the band, Blur is highly known for popularizing the Britpop movement of music and being one of the pioneers of this music. Their genre was primarily alternative rock but by bringing in the Madchester music and mixing it up with shoegazing, Blur formed unique music that stands unparalleled to date. The band comprises of Dave Rowntree who is the drummer, Damon Albarn who is the lead singer, Alex James who is the bassist and Graham Coxon who is the guitarist. Mixing their form of alternative rock with the styles of guitarist pop groups like The Beatles, The Kinks and XTC, Blur took the Britpop movement to a newer level.

The first three albums of the band namely; Modern Life is Rubbish, Parklife and The Great Escape were released in 1993, 1994 and 1995 respectively and were all based on the promotional genre for the Britpop movement. Although these albums helped bring the band to limelight, they were not much commercially successful. The Great Escape earned the band the highest of revenues compared to the first two albums. All these albums had singles that made their spaces on charts. Concerts and promotional tours that followed remained quite successful. The band then began to work on the American lo-fi indie rock music and released the album Blur in 1999. It took the success of the band to end up in the mainstream scene in the U.S. In their album 13, the band experimented with gospel and electronic music. While recording the sixth album in 2003, Think Tank, Graham Coxon left the band and the album came out showing influences from African music and hip hop.

After this, the members disbanded. In 2009, the band again reunited along with Coxon and has been holding numerous highly successful concerts.
