About Bloc Party

Bloc Party

Having formed in 1999, Bloc Party is a British band whose music is based on the innovative indie rock genre. The members of the band include Kele Okereke, Gordon Moakes, Russel Lissack and Matt Tong. Where Okereke handles lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Moakes handles bass guitar, backing vocals, synths and glockenspiel, Lissack is the lead guitarist and Tong handles backing vocals and drumming. It was during the Reading Festival of 1999 that Lissack and Okereke formed the band and after disusing upon a number of names, settled at naming the band as Bloc Party in 2003. Tong joined the band after passing an audition while Moakes entered after answering an NME magazine advertisement.

After sending a copy of, She's Hearing Voices, which was their demo to Alex Kapranos, the lead singer of Franz Ferdinand and Steve Lamacq, the DJ at BBC Radio 1, Bloc Party got their break. Following this, the band released their first album which was named, Silent Alarm in 2005. It received global critical acclaim, platinum certification and was entitled as ‘Indie Album of the Year' at the PLUG Awards of 2006. It was also named the ‘NME Album of the Year'. This success gave the band encouragement to move on and in 2007; they came up with their second album, A Weekend in the City. This album managed a position of Number 12 in Billboard 200 and Number 2 in UK Album Chart. In 2008, Intimacy was released which is the third album of the band.

The band made a promotional tour of the album all across North America and released remixes of all songs of this album in 2009 in the album named, Intimacy Remixed. Currently, all the members of the band are on a hiatus to focus on side projects and plan to re-unite in September 2011.
