About Jill Scott
Born in Philadelphia, Jill Scott is an American singer, songwriter, actress and poet. Her musical career has mostly been based on soul and R&B music. Scott began her career by showing her talents in poetry as a spoken word artist and was later spotted by a renowned American DJ, music journalist, drummer and record producer, Questlove. Also known as Brother Question, this DJ invited Scott to his studio and there she showcased her songwriting talents that won the song, You Got Me a Grammy Award. She introduced herself as a singer by singing this song as the original singer. From here, her musical career began and she embarked on a tour to Canada.
In 2000, Jill Scott released her first album being the first recording artist to sign with the company, Hidden Beach Recordings. This album was titled Who Is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds Vol. 1. This album won her not only a large amount of fame but also chart success and a Grammy nomination. In 2001, she released a live album, Experience: Jill Scott 826+ and in 200, she released her second full length album, Beautifully Human: Words and Sounds Vol. 2. Along with her musical career, Scott continues to write poetry and entered the world of film in 2007, the year when she got her second Grammy Award.
Jill Scott has released 4 studio albums, made numerous film and television appearances and enjoyed many successful tours. She married twice and divorced thus having an unsuccessful personal life but with three Grammy Awards and outstanding performances to her name, she has definitely had a great musical career.
