Brand New Heavies

Brand New Heavies is an English funk and acid jazz musical band that formed in London in 1985. Initially, the brand was named Brother International but then the name was changed to what it is now known as. Before signing to any record company, the band performed in various clubs around London. They later signed to Cooltempo. With this subsidiary of EMI, the and released their first single titled 'Got to Give' but got its major breakthrough only after signing to Acid Jazz Records that took Brand New Heavies to gain critical acclaim. Recording company was changed and the line-up of the band was also re-organized later. Following this, a refurbished version of the first album was released and the popularity of the band reached the States from UK.

The second album of the band also received critical acclaim. It was titled as 'Heavy Rhyme Experience Vol.1'. In 1994, Brand New Heavies released the fourth album, Brother Sister that marked the end of the band's collaboration with member, N'Dea Davenport. 1997 saw Sarah Garrett joining the band and the release of Brand New Heavies' latest album, Shelter. In 2000, the band released their greatest hits album named Trunk Funk-The Best of the Brand New Heavies followed by its Japan-only version, We Won't Stop in 2003 and an album titled Allaboutthefunk in 2004.

In 2006, the band reunited with the recording company Delicious Vinyl and member N'Dea Davenport and released Get Used to It. Its songs featured many video games and gained considerable popularity. With N'Dea Davenport, Jan Kincaid, Andrew Levy and Simon Bartholomew, the band is now busy recording another studio album which is to be released sometime in 2011
