About My Bloody Valentine

My Bloody Valentine

My Bloody Valentine is an Irish alternative rock band from Dublin. It was founded in 1983 by members Colm O Ciosoig and Kevin Shields. In the late 1980s, Bilinda Butcher and Debbie Googe joined the band. The four members now form the line-up of the band as of July 2011. The band took their name from a horror film made in 1981. With progression, the music of My Bloody Valentine included more and more of digital reverb, distortion and pitch blending and eventually, their music was termed as shoegazing. In 1991, the band released an album, Loveless which was completed in two years owing to financial issues. On its release, the album met with critical acclaim. However, after Loveless, My Bloody Valentine went into a hiatus while Kevin Shields continued recording follow-up material. In 2007, the band reunited to begin working on more productions.

The band has seen much of movements, issues and problems in its initial years. Formd by Ciosoig and Shields, the band was joined by Dave Conway and his girlfriend, Tina Durkin. The four were led up to Netherlands for a show by Gavin Friday of The Virgin Prunes but right after the show, they had to return to Dublin owing to lack of opportunities. The members began moving around and lost contact with each other but then reunited and finally, Durkin followed by Conway, left the band. Googe had already been recruited and Butcher was later taken in.

My Bloody Valentine than began working and produces some good works. From 1997 onwards, it went totally out of scene but reunited in 2007 and did comeback shows. No new album has however, been released by them since 1991.
