About KD Lang
Kathryn Dawn Lang is a Canadian singer and a songwriter who deals with the genres of pop and country. She is better known by his stage name k.d. lang and is the holder of Order of Canada (OC). In addition to being a singer and a songwriter, she is also an occasional actress. The writing of the name in lower case letters is a selection by Lang herself. The singer is popular for having won numerous Juno and Grammy awards and her teaming up with legendary singers like Elton John, Roy Orbison, Anne Murray and Tony Bennett. K.d. lang is also an activist for gay rights, animal right and Tibetan human right. One of the most memorable performances to have been given by Lang was that of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah during the opening ceremony of Winter Olympics in Vancouver in 2010.
It was during her college life that Lang found interest in music and planned to become a professional singer. Since she had been inspired by the music of the American singer, Pasty Cline, k.d. lang formed a band, Reclines. In 1983, the released its debut album and two years later, she did a seven-hour art-performance and the next year, came the debut album of the singer, A Truly Western Experience which led the singer to national attention and received very strong reviews.
She rose of popularity when she released a duet, Crying, with Roy Orbison and won a Grammy Award. Up till June 2011, k.d. lang has released 14 albums and received numerous prizes and awards. She is a highly celebrated musician, still active and serving the music industry.
