Leonard Cohen

Leonard Cohen is a singer, songwriter, poet, musician and novelist from Montreal, Canada. His full name is Leonard Norman Cohen but is known with his shortened name. Born in 1934, Cohen had his first book of poetry published in 1956 and his first novel in 1963. His works have mostly been concerned with subjects like interpersonal relationships, sexuality, religion and isolation. Leonard Cohen has spent many years in a Zen Buddhist monastery and is considered to be mystique personified. Hence, the highly learned and knowledgeable personality is known for his rich lyrics and producing works for five decades hat have all been ranked as possessing high artistic quality.

As far as his musical career is concerned, Leonard Cohen's earliest songs were all inspired from European folk and such types can be found in his 1967 albums, Songs of Leonard Cohen. By 1970s, he evolved his musical style into cabaret, pop and world music. Through the 1980s, Cohen's high baritone voice was seen evolving into lower registers such as bass and bass baritone and accompanying of backing female singers. He boasts order of Canada and has been enlisted in Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame and Canadian Music Hall of Fame. His songs have been re-recorded with renditions over 2000 times, according to a survey and this makes him a legend and a role model for other musicians.

In 2008, the musician was included into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the United States and from that year up till 2010, the musician made a major comeback that grabbed the attention of music fans all around the globe. He has received numerous awards such as Grammys and Meteor Music Awards and as of June 2011, is working on his upcoming album.
