About Give it a Name

Give it a Name

Shortened to as GIAN, Give It A Name is a British music festival that celebrates rock music. It has been named after a song by the American punk-rock band that remained active from 1994 up till 2001. Give It A Name takes place around weekend that comes nearest to the end of April each year. The first festival of GIAN took place on the 2nd of May, 2005 in North London at the magnificent venue, Alexandria Palace. Since then, the festival has seen much growth and development and become one of the finest celebrations of music that England holds. In 2006, GIAN became a two-day festival and took place at London's prestigious Earls Court and Manchester's Evening News Arena (M.E.N. Arena) that sells more tickets for shows and concerts than New York's Madison Square Garden.

In 2007, Give It A Name grew further and became a three-day event and held six events. That year, it went international and had its festivities reach Scotland, Germany and France. It then went on to include other genres as well such as indie rock, post-hardcore and alternative. Unfortunately, controversies arose and the festival had to be scaled down. It was once going to be cancelled but then things changed and in 2009, GIAN was held at a much smaller scale. It moved from the grand venues to rather smaller, academy venues and invited only 14 bands to play. The same year, its name was changed and the festival was renamed as Give It A Name Incoming.

Following this, the festival saw changes in its format and the year 2010 remained the first years in its history when there was no festival or celebrator event. Only five bands toured around the UK and the event was called off. Since then, this festival has held no festival or arranged any tour, yet its expiration has also not been announced.
