Johnny Winter

Johnny Winter is a renowned American singer, producer and a blued guitarist. His original name is John Dawson Winter III but is known to his fans as Johnny Winter. Johnny Winter and his brother, Edgar Winter, were both born with albinism and since their childhood, had been given musical training since their parents had large interest in the field. Johnny Winter was ranked at Number 74 by Rolling Stone magazine amongst 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time in 2003. Since a very young age, Johnny and his brother had began performing professionally with their first TV appearance being in Don Mahoney and Jeana Claire Show. At that time, they were around 10 years old.

At the age of 15, the two brothers formed a band named Johnny and the Jammers and released School Day Blues. Around the same time, Johnny Winter got to meet many blues artists who he would closely observe and learn from. In 1967, the band released a vinyl 45 titled, Tramp/Parchman Farm, Universal 30496. The next year, Winter released his first solo album, The Progressive Blues Experiment. He got his break when a renowned guitarist of that time, Mike Bloomfield, admired his talent and invite him to play at a concert in New York. At the concert, Winter not only got highly appreciated but also caught the eye of representatives of Colombia Records and was eventually signed to the company for $600,000, which was then, a record breaking collaboration.

Johnny winter released his first album with Colombia records, titled Johnny Winter and entered limelight to become one of the most celebrated artists of the country. He has released numerous albums, received many awards and enjoys a number of homages and accomplishments on his record. He is still in the scene, enjoying popularity and successful concerts.
