Isobel Campbell

Isobel Campbell is a singer, a composer and a cellist from Scotland. Campbell began her career with a Glasgow based band, Belle and Sebastian for which she played cello, was a backing vocalist and also co-wrote many of their songs. While working with Belle and Sebastian, Isobel Campbell also sang many songs as the lead vocalist. The band's UK Top 20 single, Legal Man was one of the songs that were co-written by Isobel Campbell. The band was formed in 1996 and remained successful with their second album receiving critical acclaim. Campbell toured with the band all throughout 2002 but left it in the same year during its tour to North America after completing the Toronto concert. The reasons for leaving the band have been termed as personal and have not been discussed much.

Although she officially began her solo career in 2002 after leaving this band, Isobel Campbell had released her first solo album back in 1999. It was titled, The Green Field of Foreverland. Campbell released her second solo album, Swansong for You in 2000 and her third album, Amorino in 2003. In 2006, Isobel Campbell's fourth studio album, Ballad of the Broken Seas that proved to be her major breakthrough. It was released in collaboration with Mark Lanegan, the former vocalist of the band, Screaming Trees. The same year, the Scottish musician released her fourth studio album titled, Milkwhite Sheets. This album contains songs written by Campbell as well as traditional songs from the UK.

Together with Lanegan, Campbell has released three albums and toured extensively. The duo, although not officially banded, has proven immensely successful for both the musicians and they are largely enjoying the fame and success.
