About Broken Social Scene

Broken Social Scene

Broken Social Scene emerged from Canada in 1999 as an indie rock band. It was originally formed by Brendan Canning and Kevin Drew but has 23 other members. However, not all the members always come to perform with the band and hence, the line-up keeps on changing and being reviewed. None of the members have ever left the group since its formation. Considering its size, the band was to be titled as a ‘supergroup’ but its members never supported this and claimed that in indie scene, most people have more than one project to handle and not all of them are always present with the group.

Since all members of Broken Social Scene have their own projects to handle, the sound of the band seems to be a combination of the genres of their respective bands. Still, Broken Social Scene is often deemed as a baroque pop band. Broken Social Scene is known for its magnificent and veritable orchestral settings that include woodwinds, guitars, voiles and horns. Apart from the large number of sounds, what set this band apart from the rest are its unusual song structures, chaotic production and experimentation.

The band has released four albums namely Feel Good Lost (2001), You Forgot It In People (2002), Broken Social Scene (2005) and Forgiveness Rock Record (2010). Except for the first two albums, the entire discography of the band has been ranked on the charts, not on very good places though. Even though the band has not been able to get a good mainstream limelight, it has a considerable amount of fan following and tours expensively to entertain them. The concerts of Broken Social Scene are mostly successful.
