Formed in 1978, Killing Joke is an English pop-punk band that formed in Notting Hill, London. According to some sources, it was formed in 1978 while according to others, it was formed in 1979. Since its formation, the band has seen numerous changes in line-ups. The guitarist, Geordie Walker and the keyboardist and vocalist, Jaz Coleman are the only founding members of the group who haven't left. According to the critics, the band's music has highly influenced the industrial rock music. Over time, the talent of the Killing Joke members allowed them to do much of experimentation and evolve into synth-pop, alternative rock, electronic music and gothic rock.
Killing Joke has been considerably successful commercially and has been an influence for many later bands such as Nirvana, Korn, Big Black, Nine Inch Nails and many others. All these bands, at some point, have mentioned thankfulness to and appreciation for Killing Joke. As of June 2011, the band comprises of Kevin Walker (Geordie), Jaz Coleman, Reza Udin, Martin Glover (Youth) and Paul Ferguson. The band had gained significant attention with the release of their first EP, Turn to Red and gained a large fan base. The band also made a few controversies for going to bold and blasphemous but the fan base maintained and nothing could hinder its popularity.
Line-ups changed and so did members, but the band continued to work and tours around the globe. Killing Joke has released 14 albums to date all of which, gained much attention and applaud. In the March of 2011, the band got signed to FreePress Sumemrfest in Houston.
