About Blonde Redhead

Blonde Redhead

The multi-ethnic membership of the band, Blonde Redhead, includes Milan born Italian brothers, Simone Pace and Amedeo Pace as well as the Japanese musician, Kazu Makino. There also used to be a 4th member named Maki Takahashi but she left the band to be replaced by her friend, Toko Yasuda. The band began in New York in 1993 in the underground scene but culminated in having their first album, Blonde Redhead, released in 1995. Later on, Toko Yasuda, the bassist, also left the band and Blonde Redhead has continued as a trio since then. They now invite guest bassist for their albums and people like Skuli Sverisson have played this role in their recent albums.

The band has worked extensively with a number of producers, guest bassists and recording companies. Three of the recording companies, with which their collaboration turned out immensely successful, are 4AD, Smells Like and Touch & Go. The third album of Blonde Redhead, which was named Fake Can Be Just As Good had Vern Rumsey of the band, Unwound as their guest bassist. The fourth album of the band, In An Expression of the Inexpressible that came out in 1998, the producer of the band, Fugazi, Guy Picciotto, was hired for production.

The collaborations and experiments with various musical interments have proven good enough for the band. Although still not into the limelight of the mainstream music industry, Blonde Redhead is enjoying an encouraging fan following and highly applauded performances.
