About Breeders

Breeders

Focusing on alternative rock, The Breeders is an American band that formed in Boston, Massachusetts in 1988. The founding members of the band were Kim Deal from the band Pixies and Tanya Donelly from the band Throwing Muses. After a series of revising line-ups and changing of band members, The Breeders is now left with Kim Deal, her twin sister Kelly Deal, Mando Lopez, Jose Medeles and Cheryl Lindsay leaving Kim Deal as the sole founding member. She is the lead vocalist and guitarist while Kelly Deal is the guitarist as well as the backing vocalist. Mando Lopez is the bass guitarist and Jose Medeles is the drummer and handles percussion while Cherly Lindsay is the guitarist of the band.

The name of the band, The Breeders, is a gay slang addressing the heterosexual community. The first album of the band, Pod was recorded within a week and along with several B sides, the album was released in the May of 1990. The album turned out to be critically acclaimed and gained enthusiastic reviews but could make a mark on the commercial side. Following the release of this album, the entire band's members went back to focus on other projects that they were working in. In 1991, an EP was released after which, Tanya left the group. The second album gave the band their major breakthrough when Last Splash (1993) gained immense popularity, peaked on charts and was highly successful commercially. From 1995 onwards, the band members continued to work on side projects and The Breeders remained sidelined.

From 2001, the band has been active again, releasing albums and playing in various concerts and gigs. Up till 2009, they had released seven albums and are enjoying successful tours and concerts.
