About Joe Jackson

Joe Jackson is a five time Grammy nominated English musician, songwriter as well as a singer. He was born in Burton upon Trent as David Ian Jackson but later moved to Berlin, which as of June 2011 is his place of residence. Although Jackson has had a long and successful career in music and his Grammy nominations span from the year 1979 to 2001, he is best known for his 1979, 1982 and 1984 hits namely; Is She Really Going Out With Him?, Steppin' Out and You Can't Get What You Want (Till You Know What You Want) respectively. Along with Graham Parker and Elvis Costello, Joe Jackson was the third person who challenged the punk scene on 1970s in the United States and introduced the New Wave sound to the country.

Since a very young age, Jackson began learning violin but then switched to piano. At the age of 16, he was already playing around in bars very regularly. He later got the scholarship to study at Royal Academy of Music in London. He went on to form a band named Edward Bear which was later renamed to Edwin Bear and then to Arms and Legs but ended up after releasing two unsuccessful singles. From 1972 onwards, he began to be known as 'Joe' owing to his resemblance to a puppet character, Joe 90. In 1978, the singer was signed to A&M Records and he released three albums from then up till 1980.

From 1982 onwards, his singles and albums began charting and receiving great success, a story that continues to date. Along with his musical career, Joe Jackson has been working for social causes and has toured extensively.
