About Mr Scruff
Mr. Scruff is an English artist and a DJ. He is more commonly known through the mentioned recording name but his actually name is Andy Carthy. He studies fine arts from Sheffield Hallam University and before beginning with a musical career, he earned his livelihood as a shelf-stacker. Mr. Scruff's name has been inspired from his trademark drawing style that comprises lose lines and his scruffy facial hair. He began his career as a DJ in 1994 and initially performed only in and around Manchester, where he currently resides. Later on, he introduced his talents all across the UK.
Mr. Scruff is known for his unusual homemade videos, a diversified taste of music, playing marathon sets that sometimes even exceed six hours and craze for tea. Hard work is evident in his works and according to him, he gets annoyed if he does not take risks and is often very hard on himself. Mr. Scruff began working with a small, Manchester based record label, Robs Records and released his first album which was self titled. Before this, he released a number of singles. He then moved on to a larger label, Ninja Tune with which, he released his albums, Keep It Unreal and Trouser Jazz. The most notable hit to have been released by Mr. Scruff is Get a Move On which was featured in GEICO Insurance, France Telecom, and Volvo and Lincoln automobile ads.
He has six albums to his record and owns a great DJing talent. Mr. Scruff has also released a number of compilation albums and singles, many of which remained quite popular. He has also made collaborations with many other musicians and released work which became quite famous.
