About Jonathan Richman

Jonathan Richman is an American songwriter, singer and a guitarist. His full name is Jonathan Michael Richman but is more commonly known with his shortened name. Jonathan Richman's musical journey began when he started writing his own songs in the 1960s and playing music, trying to emerge as a professional musician. He worked hard, moved to New York, worked jobs but failed and returned to Boston. In Boston, he formed the band, The Modern Lovers which was a proto-punk garage rock band. Together with Jerry Harrison as the keyboardist and David Robinson as the drummer of the band, Richman produced songs based on topics related to Boston.

The band eventually broke up and Richman moved to California where he released four songs with the backing of the members of band, Earth Quake. Later on, he formed a newer version of Modern Lovers but soon after the release of the first album of the band, Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers, the trio disbanded. Richman hired new musicians and released an album but yet again, the band broke up. In the UK, his singles were receiving a great deal of success and were charting. He then went on to release solo albums and also gave music for films and charitable purposes.

He has 25 albums to his record and the singer is still widely known for his musical talents. He continues to contribute to the music industry and has introduced his daughter who provided backing vocals in his 2004 album, Not So Much To Be Loved As To Love.
