Forming in 1989, the American rock band, The Black Crowes, has seen two hiatuses and is currently experiencing the second one. The bend has released a total of thirteen albums, nine of which are studio album and the remaining four are live albums. Beginning the career with producer, George Drakoulias, the band released its debut album titled Shake Your Money Maker in 1990. The first recording company that The Black Crowes signed with was Def American Recordings. The band then released their second album titled The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion which managed a position on Billboard 200 in 1992.
In the same year, Rolling Stone magazine termed The Black Crowes as the ‘Best New American Band' while Melody Maker labeled them as 'The Most Rock 'n' Roll Rock 'n' Roll Band in the World'. Having sold over 30 million copies, the band has also enjoyed VH1's ranking amongst '100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock'. The band saw many changes in line-up due to leaving members and varying attitudes but managed to release singles and albums that made some impact on their fan following. From 2002 till 2005, the band saw their first hiatus after which, they released more albums and enjoyed much of acclaim.
As of now, the band members and line-up comprise Chris Robinson (vocalist), Rich Robinson (guitarist), Adam McDougall (keyboardist), Steve Gorman (drummer), Luther Dickenson (guitarist) and Sven Pipien (bassist). Their last album came out in 2010 after which, the second hiatus began but the band is touring different parts of the world and performing their musical talents to large audiences.
