About Billy Bragg

Billy Bragg

Born on the 20th of December, Billy Bragg is an English politician as well as a musician with alternative rock being his genre of focus. It all started when Bragg formed a punk/pub rock band in 1977 and named it Riff Raff. The band traveled all over the United Kingdom holding gigs and nights in pubs and clubs. During this time, a number of singles were relapsed but failed to attract much attention. Bragg then joined the British Army but left it after receiving all formal training. When he returned home, he had £175 with him. Soon thereafter, he began working with Andy Kershaw, a BBC DJ. Working with him, Bragg enjoyed a BBC appearance and a journey all the way from Bolivia to Chile as part of the program.

Moving on, Bragg found that he had not gotten desirable success and he entered the office of Peter Jenner, the A&R man of Charisma Records pretending to be a television repairer. Jenner appreciated his records but could not sign him because the company was almost bankrupt and was in no position to sign another artiste. He however helped him do some recording through the label. Later on, Charisma Records was taken over by Virgin Records and Bragg found excellent chances of releasing singles. With Jenner as his manger, he continued and released a number of hits.

Bragg released 13 albums many of which enjoyed international commercial success and topped charts around the UK. Billy Bragg is still an active member of the leftist wing and is enjoying tours and concerts in various parts of the world.
