Cat Power

Cat Power is the stage name of an American singer. She is also a song writer and known by the corruption of her real name, Chan Marshall or her stage name, Cat Power. She was born Charlyn Marie Marshall in Atlanta, Georgia. The year 1992 brought Cat Power to New York City where Glen Thrasher introduced her to the city's experimental music and free-jazz scene. According to Cat Power herself, what gave her the confidence of performing in the public was a concert by Anthony Braxton and her first show was held at a Brooklyn warehouse. She also worked with a few other bands but it was not until her collaboration with the queercore band, God Is My Co-Pilot that she was able to release her first single. In 1994, Cat Power began opening shows for other bands and in 1995, finally released her first album, Dear Sir. The following year, her second album, Myra Lee came out.

Cat power's third album, What Would the Community Think came out after which she went into a hiatus planning to retire from the music scene. She first began working as a baby sitter, then moved to a farmhouse and later settled with her boyfriend. It was one sleepless night resulting from a nightmare, during which she wrote many songs that later became singles of her fourth album, Moon Pix. This album gained considerable commercial acclaim and landed Cat power into the indie music scene. From 2000 till 2006, Cat Power faced personal issues and her stage performances became more annoying than entertaining. However, she successful got out of it and formed a band in 2007 with which she toured extensively.

Since the fame of 2007, the singer has received many awards and prizes and is enjoying successful performances and concerts.
