About Jane Birkin

Born Jane Mallory Birkin, Jane Birkin is an actress as well as a singer from England but resides in France. She has the honor of receiving the OBE from Queen Elizabeth II. Birkin was born to an English actress, Judy Campbell and a Royal Navy lieutenant-commander, David Birkin, Jane Birkin first came to limelight after appearing in a film, Blowup in the 1960s. The same year, she went for an audition to France to become the lead female role in the movie, Slogan. Despite not knowing French, she won the role and appeared for the theme song of the movie with Serge Gainsbourg. The duet turned out well received and later, Brikin and Gainsbourg did numerous collaborations.

The first one of theses that took place right after the movie, Slogan resulted in a controversial song Je t'aime� moi non plus (I love you... me neither) which was banned in Spain, UK an Italy but its instrumental version played in the Top of the Pops show reachd Number 18 in the UK. Following this success, Birkin appeared on an album by Gainsbourg in 1971 which was titled, Histoire de Melody Nelson. On the cover as well as in a song, she acted as a Lolita. From 1971 till 1972, she remained on a hiatus from films and emerged in 1975 on Gainsbourg's bedut film, Je t'aime� moi non plus forwhich she received a Best Actress nomination in C�sar Awards.

She has appeared in a number of films and released 14 studio albums along with 5 live albums. She has married twice and has three daughters, the youngest one resulting from her relationship with Jacques Doillon, the movie director. Birkin is an activist and widely renowned for her acting and musical talents.
