About Long Blondes

Long Blondes was a British band whose genre of music was mainly indie rock. It was formed in Sheffield in 2003 by Emma Chaplin, Dorian Cox, Reenie Hollis, Screech Louder and Kate Jackson. In this five piece band, Dorian Cox was the keyboardist and the lead guitarist, Emma Chaplin was the rhythm guitarist, keyboardist and backing vocalist Reenie Hollis was the bass guitarist and backing vocalist, Kate Jackson was the lead vocalist and Screech Louder was the drummer. The real names of Reenie Hollis and Screech Louder were Kathryn Hollis and Mark Turvey.

After its formation, the band began releasing singles many of which remained critically acclaimed. Following this success and a great deal of encouragement, Long Blondes released their first album, Someone To Drive You Home in 2006 via Rough Trade Records. In the April of 2008, the band released its second album, Couples. In October the same year, Long Blondes announced their split up. It was the 20th of October when this announcement was made and the same day, the compilation album of their singles, titles Singles was released. The reason for sudden split up was the illness of Dorian Cox who was their lead guitarist and he main songwriter.

Throughout their career, Long Blondes released two albums, both of which charted at Number 1 and 2 respectively at the UK Indie Chart and 44 and 48 respectively on the UK Albums Chart. Four of their singles also charted and the band also managed to grab an NME Award in the category of Phillip Hall Radar Award. Having begun with a successful career, the band suddenly came to an end but its releases will long be remembered and heard.
