About Inspiral Carpets

Inspiral Carpets

Formed in 1983, Inspiral Carpets emerged from Manchester, England as an alternative rock band. The band was founded by Stephen Holt and Graham Lambert and based the sound of Inspiral Carpets around psychedelic guitars and keyboards. Another school friend of Holt and Lambert, Craig Hill was also included in the band. The band faced numerous changes in line-up and finally together with David Swift as the bassist, Lambert, Holt and Hill released two albums titled, Waiting for Ours and Songs of Shallow Intensity. However, at a later point in time, the band again faced changes in line-ups and finally ended up with the current members that are Graham Lambert, Clint Boon, Martyn Walsh, Craig Hill and Tom Hingley.

Inspiral Carpets rose to prominence in the late 1980s when their first proper production, Planecrash EP was aired on radio and a disk of Garage Full of Flowers was given free with the Manchester based Debris magazines that quickly reached the public. Since then, there was no looking back and the band started to get proposals from various production companies and invitations from radio channels. From 1990 onwards, Insprial Carpets had released many charting songs and gained international acclaim. After this, the band began to split up with all members going on to either work solo or form new bands.

In 2003, the band reunited to release a few more productions and the again went on a hiatus. In 2007, it reunited for some touring but since early 2009, there have been no updates about Inspiral Carpets.
