About Chris Rea
Born Chris Anton Rea, Chris Rea is an English songwriter and singer who is known widely for his side guitar playing and husky voice that sets him distinct as compared to most other singers. According to the music reference book, British Hit Singles and Albums, Chris Rea was “one of the most popular UK singer-songwriters of the late 1980s. He was already a major European star by the time he finally cracked the UK Top 10 with his 18th chart entry; The Road to Hell (Part 2). As per a survey held in 2009, Rea had sold over 30 million copies of albums globally. However, the most popular work ever to have been done by this great singer is the single Fool (If You Think It's Over). This single reached Number 12 on Billboard 100 and remained on Number 1 at the US Bollboard adult contemporary chart.
Rea's little success in the States did no harm to his musical career as he did manage to produce albums that managed positions in the UK carts. Although Rea had begun his musical career in the early 1970s, his major breakthrough did not come along until he released his first album, The Road to Hell that he rose to prominence and this album reached Number 1 in the charts around UK. Rea's popularity however, had begun with the release of his singles; Josephine and Stanisby Girls.
Until 2005, he released albums continuously but then went into a hiatus to return in 2007. He has, since, been touring different parts of the world and giving marvelous stage performances. 2011 is to see his latest album coming up.
