About Gary Numan
Born Gary Anthony James Webb, Gary Numan is an English musician, singer and a composer. He is considered to be the pioneer of commercially produced electronic music while his sounds typically comprise of heavy synthesizer hooks supplied by effects units of guitars. Gary Numan is known popularly for his super hits songs; Are Friends Electric? that he released with his band Tubeway Army and the single, Cars. It was Gary NUman who is believed to have initiated the amalgamation of sci-fi themes, electronic and heavy punk energy that has since, been the genre of numerous other musicians. Since a very young age, Numan had begun working with bands but it was not until the end of 1970s that he rose to prominence as the front man, producer and writer for Tubeway Army.
Even with Tubeway Army, gaining popularity for Gary Numan was not an easy task. Most of his initial singles and albums remained aloof of mass popularity. In 1979, the single Are Friends Electric? however, proved to be the ultimate reason of success for the musician. Aside from the band, Gary Numan released signles under his own name that received a great applaud and topped charts all around Europe and the Americas.
Numan has been highly renowned for his style which was typically that of punk contemporaries. He had no feelings and felt nothing for anything, even for the political happening that he was singing for. His fans began calling themselves Numanoids and even at the age of 21, the musician was a loner and lived with his parents. Until 2006, he has released 19 albums and is now busy touring different parts of the world, entertaining his fans.
