About Crowded House

Crowded House is a band from the Oceana region that was formed in the Australian city of Melbourne but by a New Zealander named, Neil Finn. He is a singer as well as a songwriter. He drew members of the band from New Zealand, Australia and the United States. The New Zealander members of the band are Neil's brother Tim Finn and Eddie Rayner while from Australia, Nick Seymour, Craig Hooper, Paul Hester and Peter Jones joined the band. Matt Sherrod and Mark Hart were drawn from the States. Australian fans of the band refer to them as The Crowdies.

Since its formation in 1985, the band remained active until 1996 and enjoyed intense critical acclaim and large scale success in both, New Zealand and Australia. However, their first album, titled Crowded House, is held responsible for taking the name all the way to United States which managed a position of Number 12 in US Album Chart. The second album managed a position amongst the top 10 in Canada, Australia and New Zealand. It was not as successful as the previous album. The third and fourth albums of Crowded House, Woodface and Together Alone expanded the success of the band to UK and the rest of Europe. In 1994, the drummer of the band, Hester left the group and in 2005, he committed suicide. From 1994 till 1996, the band toured without Hester. In 2006, Crowded House reunited and released two albums.

Up till 200, they have released a total of six studio albums and won numerous awards. The Finn brothers have also been awarded an OBE by Queen Elizabeth II owing to their contribution towards New Zealand's music. The band continues to tour and actively hold successful concerts.
