About Metallica
Formed in 1981, Metallica is an American band from Los Angeles, California. It makes heavy metal music. The band came into being when drummer Lars Ulrich posted an advertisement in the newspaper and Kirk Hammett, who is now the lead guitarist and backing vocalist of the band, responded to the advertisement. With many changes in line-ups, Metallica's current line-up comprises of Ulrich, Hammett, Robert Trujilo and James Hetfield as of June 2011. To begin a musical career with, Metallica first released tempos and instrumentals that were fast and showed aggression through music. This took them to be named the 'big four' of thrash metal music alongside Anthrax, Slayer and Magadeth.
In 1986, the band came up with its third album, Master of Puppets which met critical acclaim and brought Metallica, a fan base in the underground music scene, larger than ever before. This album was termed as the one of the most influential heavy thrash metal albums. Their fifth album, The Black Album reached Number 1 on Billboard 200 and this took Metallica to enter the mainstream music scene. As of June 2011, the band has released nine studio albums, twenty four music videos, five EPs, three live albums, and forty five singles. They have nine Grammys to their record as well as five albums to have consecutively reached Billboard 200 at Number 1.
Metallica has sold millions of copies all around the globe and is currently working on another album. Despite having alienated many fans by dropping snare drum and guitar solos, the band is expected to come up with another hit album that will rock its fans all across the globe once again.
