About Kaiser Chiefs

Kaiser Chiefs

Formed in Leeds in 1997, Kaiser Chiefs is an English band with indie rock being its genre. The name of the band has been inspired from a South African football club, Kaizer Chiefs. In 2005, the band released its debut album, which was titled Employment. This album was inspired by the punk rock and New Wave genres of 1970s and 1980s, sold more than a million copied globally and enjoyed a huge success. This album was also shortlisted for the Mercury Music Prize. In 2007, the band came up with its second album, Yours Truly, Angry Mob, which spawned the UK Number 1 single, Ruby. In 2008, Kaiser Chiefs released their third album, Off With Their Heads and then went on to a hiatus. Three years later, the June of 2011 saw the release of their fourth album, The Future is Medieval.

The band comprises of members, Nick Hodgson, Ricky Wilson, Simon Rix, Andrew White (Whitey) and Nick Baines (Peanut). It all began when Wilson, White and Hodgson formed a band, Runston Parva which failed to get signed to any record label. Old classmates, Baines and Rix then returned to Leeds from university and joined this band renaming it, Parva. Parva gained popularity but got dropped by the recording company. The members however did not lose hope and continued to work. They changed the name of the band to Kaiser Chiefs and impressed their later manager, James Sandom. As Sandom became their manager, the band touched new heights.

All their albums received a great applaud and the band has toured extensively to promote them. They have also provided soundtrack for Xbox 360 and are enjoying fame and commercial success.
