2008 has already proved to be a whirlwind year for the legendary soul and R&B icon Al Green. Al Green’s new album, Lay It Down was released on 27 May and debuted at No. 9 in the Billboard charts. His 1973 hit I’m Still in Love with You hit the No. 4 Billboard chart spot and Al Greens incredible voice became known to the world through a string of classic hits in the early 1970s with tracks including Tired of Being Alone, Let's Stay Together, I Can't Get Next to You, Here I Am and many more. At the 2008 BET Awards Al Green received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his incredible contribution to the soul, gospel, and R&B world.Al Green released a duet with Annie Lennox: Put A Little Love In Your Heart for Scrooged, a 1988 Bill Murray film. In 1989 Al Green worked with producer Arthur Baker writing and producing the international hit The Message Is Lov. In 1992, Al Green recorded again with Baker, The Fine Young Cannibals, and reunited with his former Memphis mix engineer Terry Manning, to release the album Don't Look Back. His 1994 duet with country music singer Lyle Lovett blended country with R&B, garnering him his ninth Grammy, this time in a pop music category. Green's first secular album in some time was Your Heart's In Good Hands (1995), released to positive reviews. In 1995 Al Green was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
