Alter Bridge’s album Blackbird was released on October 9, 2007. The first single off the new album is titled "Rise Today," and was released for digital download on July 30, 2007. The song was also the official theme song for WWE's Unforgiven 2007. The music video for Rise Today debuted October 4, 2007 on the Yahoo! Music website. A new duet version of Watch Over You was recorded with Cristina Scabbia of Lacuna Coil and currently is going to be released in Germany and Italy.

Rise Today from Alter Bridges Blackbird album was featured in the intro to the Cubs and Cardinals Monday night game on ESPN on August 20, 2007. Rise Today was also the background track for CBSs new promo spot for the upcoming season of CSI: Miami. Rise Today was the background track for Foxs new promo spot for the upcoming drama the Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Alter Bridges single Open Your Eyes was featured in the video game Madden 2005. Blackbird was also the official theme song for WWE's Unforgiven 2007.

On June 14, 2008 Alter Bridge played on the main stage at the Download Festival.
